Carbost Falls
Haworth Hodgkinson
We had both stopped
to peer over the precipice
at the burn, endlessly flinging itself
into the chasm below.
She asked where I came from
and, reasoning that she wouldn't know Auchnagatt,
I tried Ellon... Peterhead...?
It turned out she hadn't heard of Aberdeen.
The burn flung itself
over the precipice
where we both stood,
endlessly peering into the chasm below.
I forget where she was from —
South Africa, Zimbabwe, somewhere like that.
